1. Developing Criteria
Of course we need to come up with a list of the needs of the product or solution. It may be the client needs to have a mobile device that has flexibility (to allow the device to be place in the front and back pockets without damaging. In addition the mobile device must be only 0.75cm in thickness and weigh no more than 150 grams. These criteria help us to provide the right product to the client.
So here is another example of criteria for an Olympic Games promotional video:
1. The video must be at least 2 minutes short but no longer than 4 minutes.
2. The location of the video must be shot in April as this is the month that most tourists travel to Istanbul. ("When to Travel in Turkey." Turkey Travel Planner. This is a reliable source as it is a Turkish website directed towards tourists and is supported by the tourist statistics)
3. The video must be 1080 resolution and shot with a Nikon-J1 camera. This camera shoots 60 frames per second and has the capabilities to shoot a good quality video. ("Nikon-J1." Snapsort. This can be confirmed on Nikon’s own company website).
4. The video must be shot in Ayasofya, Sultan Ahmet, Beyazit and Beyoglu. These areas are home to the Hagia Sophia, Sultan Ahmed Mosque, the Grand Bazaar and the Galata Tower. The people in these areas would be able to communicate in foreign languages as they meet many tourists. ("Attractions." Go Turkey. This is a reliable source as it is the official tourism website of Turkey)
5. The video must show people in Istanbul using dollars and euros as well as Turkish lira while paying for things in areas like the Grand Bazaar.
6. The video must be shot in areas that are home to the Hagia Sophia, Sultan Ahmed Mosque “The Blue Mosque”, the Grand Bazaar and the Galata Tower. These are the most popular tourists attractions in Istanbul and will be the best places to represent different cultures. ("Attractions." Go Turkey. This is a reliable source as it is the official tourism website of Turkey)
7. The video must have a scene devoted to the advanced language education of schools in Turkey. Istanbul International Community School, British International School, Darussafaka and Galatasaray Highschool are amongst the schools that are known for their brilliant education. (I know this from my previous assignment as I discussed Istanbul’s education developments and the schools that are famous for their multi-cultural education.)
8. The video must be filmed in sunny weather no hotter than 28 degrees and no colder than 23 degrees, between 23 and 28 is a good temperature that will promote tourist movement.
9. The video must be shot in the restaurant of the Galata Tower. The tower and the restaurant both attract a large amount of tourists and therefore have an English menu. ("Galata Tower Restaurant." Trip Advisor)
10. The video must be filmed using a “Vivitar” tripod that is a 57 inch professional photo video tripod- 3-way pan head, rapid-action locks legs, built in bubble leveling, quick release platform, rubber feet, includes carrying case. ("Triple Tripod Accessory Bundle Kit For Nikon 1 J1. Amazon.com)
11. The video must have English subtitles in 48-point font and Times New Roman font style, so that it looks more professional and is easy to read.
12. The video should be made using iMovie and should be exported in to mp4 format to be able to be viewed on Macs as well as PC. ("IMovie Discussions." Apple Support Communities)
13. The video must have Turkish percussion music in the background particularly “Turkish Percussion by Professor Kliq” on Youtube. ("Turkish Percussion." YouTube.)
14. The video must have English labels of all of the tourist attractions being shown in the video; Hagia Sophia, Sultan Ahmed Mosque “The Blue Mosque”, the Grand Bazaar and the Galata Tower. This will be part of the subtitles and will be 48-point font and Times New Roman style font.
We can now produce some designs based on these criteria.

We can now produce some designs based on these criteria.

Context: Student is designing an emergency shelter that can last for 24 hours.
2. Making a range of Designs
In this section the aim is to produce designs for the product or solution that could solve the issue. We must use the specifications we made in the sections above.
Initially we need to produce sketches (neat of course) of possible solutions that are well annotated and can be followed by others. Below are some sketches for a maze.

4. Final design drawings:
Creating a step-by-step drawing
Once you have decided the product you will make, you may be asked to produce step-by-step instructions for creating it. IKEA are famous for their lack of words on their assembly guides. Here is an example of one:

Example of how to draw step-by-step diagrams
In the tutorials below, you will find an example of how to draw step-by-step instructional diagrams. Note that you have already decided the steps and you now need to show that in a diagram form.
Pencil is used throughout
Measurements are included
Annotations where needed
You should be able to follow and complete the steps without asking questions.
